Stylish, Sustainable & Low-Maintenance Xeriscaped Yard
This was a large-scale makeover for a charming home. It entailed completely revitalizing their front yard with a thoughtful, sustainable landscape design.
Our plan focused on removing all existing grass to create a low-maintenance, eco-friendly mulch front yard filled with carefully selected plantings.
We designed a cohesive plant palette to bring harmony and structure to the yard. Over the years, well-meaning previous owners had added various plants without a clear plan, resulting in a cluttered and unbalanced landscape. To create a fresh, intentional design, we carefully removed overgrown and mismatched elements, starting from scratch to craft a beautifully curated outdoor space.
The Benefits of a Retaining Wall
To maximize both aesthetics and functionality, we installed a retaining wall to prevent erosion and increase usable space—plus, it adds a polished, modern touch. A new pathway was incorporated to provide easy access for garbage cans, enhancing convenience and organization.
Along the house, we built an 18-inch raised bed and filled it with a cohesive selection of small perennials, bringing color and texture to the space. Strategic outdoor lighting was added to elevate the design with a professional, finished look.

The Backyard
Unlike the front yard transformation, the backyard focused more on enhancing rather than removing. Many of the new plantings were thoughtfully continued from the front, creating a cohesive and harmonious design. We carefully relocated hostas to better complement the space, introduced vibrant yellow thuja for added color and depth, and planted fresh jasmine beneath the trellises for a touch of elegance.
The result? A beautifully refreshed backyard that feels both inviting and intentional. It was such a rewarding project—we almost didn’t want to leave!
