Front Yard Planting And Hardscaping
This was a huge project. We ripped out a large amount of dying sod, river rock, and old, ratty plants. The new owners of this house wanted a fresh look, and we wanted to make them happy! We did a lot here, so let’s look at everything step by step This was an awesome design, but not ours. The customer had this made before we had met.

After

In the front, we installed a patio made of 2′ x 2′ architectural slabs (pavers), with space in between for future groundcover. We installed a number of really cool trees here. A small forest of Quaking Aspens greets you along the driveway. A Hinoki false cypress will eventually dominate the foreground, and an Eastern Redbud will grow in behind it. A visually appealing collection of bushy and mounding shrubs fills out the center with stunning colors and year-round interest. This is topped off with a mix of sedums and other groundcovers in the foreground. The patio draws your eyes around the yard. We also installed a garden box with raspberries inside.
A new lighting fixture was installed. We also planted a bunch of plants against the bay window portion of the house leading to the backyard.

Backyard Sod, Edging, Planting
We installed multiple beds, each filled with a ton of plants. The homeowners got new sod in the middle of the yard, separated with high-quality black metal edging. The metal edging is great for ease of mowing and keeping grass from creeping into mulch beds. It also just looks sharp—and it pretty much lasts forever.

We continued the plant palette from the front: varied grasses with a scattering of Heuchera, mixed with some evergreen varieties and blueberries. This makes for a diverse, well-rounded plant selection that will look good all year.

The Back Corner
Let’s not forget the back corner! It was a mess of weeds and ivy that had been neglected. We gave it a strong statement so that the eye won’t pass over it anymore! Three roses in a row behind the deck serve as a foundation, with a continuation of plants from the rest of the design to really bring this section out and fill in the space nicely. We planted some jasmine along the trellises to replace the invasive ivy. This will fill in beautifully and provide some privacy.
Thanks again, guys, for letting us do your awesome yard—it was an absolute pleasure working with you!
